We are honored to share with you an important message from our treasurer, Dr. Paul PITTALUGA, a vascular surgeon and co-founder of the France Lipœdème Association. In this video, Dr. PITTALUGA discusses the importance of the association and his personal commitment to the fight against lipedema.
Dr. PITTALUGA has devoted the last 20 years of his career to treating venous insufficiency, particularly varicose veins. Throughout his practice, he has encountered many patients suffering from chronic pain and symptoms that are often mistaken for those of venous insufficiency. Unfortunately, without a proper diagnosis of lipedema, he was often unable to help them.
Her meeting with Dr. Nicolas Zwillinger, a plastic surgeon, and Dr. Michèle Cazaubon, an angiologist, marked a turning point in her commitment. Together, they recognized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to treating lipedema. This collaboration led to the creation of France Lipœdème, the first multidisciplinary association in France dedicated to this condition.
France Lipœdème aims to improve understanding, awareness, and care for lipedema. To achieve these ambitious goals, the association relies on scientific and communication resources:
To carry out this mission, the association needs the involvement of professionals from various fields (plastic surgeons, gynecologists, angiologists, endocrinologists, dermatologists, physical therapists, osteopaths, nutritionists, and psychologists) as well as financial support. Donations, sponsorships, and volunteers are essential to supporting this public health initiative.
Dr. PITTALUGA emphasizes the importance of everyone’s commitment to this cause. The recent launch of the France Lipœdème website provides a platform for dialogue among healthcare professionals, patients, and the general public, and helps advance knowledge and treatment of this condition.
